2019 Hardin County Fair Blue Ribbon Winner: Laura Dickinson and Her Great-Grandma's Stick Tite Pecan Pie

IMG-0358.JPG

Monday, July 8, Laura Dickinson was awarded the blue ribbon for her great-grandma’s Pecan pie. After two years of second place she was hoping to pin down first place and she finally did!

“I pulled out all the stops: big pecan flower on the top, braided crust, egg wash ….”

Now she has a blue ribbon to hang up in honor of her grandma and her pie.

“It really means a lot to use my great-grandma’s recipe. I’ve seent it hung up at my Grandma’s house all my life and now that she’s gone, it connects me with her still. She would have loved to hear about winning this!”

Laura is sharing her Grandma’s, now blue ribbon pie recipe, right here with us! You can make it simple with a store bought crust, mix, and pour, or impress like Laura by making her pecan flower and braided crust. Now the real question…do you pronounce it “PEEECAAN” or “PICAN”?

Ingredients:

2 eggs

1 cup brown Karo Syrup

1 cup sugar

1 tablespoon flour

1 tablespoon vanilla

3/4 cup pecans

Directions:

Mix together and pour into pie shell. Bake at 325 degrees for 40-50 minutes or until the knife comes out clean. To have the award-winning touch like Laura, make a flower design with the nuts, and make a homemade pie shell with a braided edge. Cool and let pie set up, and then take that blue ribbon first bite.
