Only Treats this Halloween

2020 has been a crazy year to say the least. It’s almost as if we were all tricked and we will wake up from this nightmare that this year has become for so many. Thankfully this Halloween in Elizabethtown is going to be filled with lots of treats and no tricks, friendly faces, and tons of love for the kid’s in town. This is why we love where we live. This town is home. And it’s home because of the people who care about this great community.

To bring Halloween to the masses this year Treats in the Park has been created.

Ashley Purcell, Children’s Ministers at Grace Heartland Church is one of the driving forces behind this community-wide event and explains how it came to be,

“As we were looking at the calendar for the coming months and noticing just how many things would have to be canceled due to Covid, our church staff team decided to toss this idea around with other churches and local businesses and see if there was any interest.”

Because of this creativity and thoughtfulness and need; the response was tremendous!

“As with most things in our town, when there is a need to help children-whether it is physical items or entertainment to lift spirits-our community shows up!”

Their goal is to have 75-100 community partners participate. Partnering groups will be in charge of setting up their displays the morning of the event and tearing them down the same day. They will be on hand to pass out candy or prizes, wave to families, and be a welcoming presence for our community’s kids. The set-ups can be as elaborate as they want, but they will not be scary.

Think of this event like Christmas in the Park except with a Halloween theme and candy, with people waving and dancing around to make kids smile! The driving route will be significantly smaller in comparison.

You will stay in your car the entire time.  Be ready to tune in to Quicksie or The Wolf as they will be broadcasting live from the event as well.

“As we look at our calendars and feel a sense of loss at all the things being cancelled, we wanted to provide an opportunity for kids to be entertained, something for families to look forward to, and an opportunity for our community leaders, businesses, churches, and other partners to come together and love on our families-in a safe way! This is one thing Covid can’t cancel!” Ashely explains.

Make sure you come out, get dressed up, and even consider “dressing” up your car for this unique and safe event!
