What to Do When There’s Nothing to Do

There are so many great things about living in a small town like ours. You can get anywhere in 10 minutes or less (for the most part), you can actually know people in the community, you can be involved in things and really make a difference. However, one of the things you may struggle with is that there are some weekends that there just isn’t much going on. If your like us, those are great weekends to rest and rejuvenate with family and friends. But maybe you are looking for a little more activity, and the local event calendars are just a little bare. We are here as a guide for you to always be entertained without having to leave Hardin County.

When you wake up head straight downtown for a coffee and light breakfast at Vibe, then antiquing on the square. Then check out all the local boutique shops down there like Denizen and Raiment + Boon, and several others. Stop along the way for a lunch break at Impellizeri’s for some pizza or pasta - though the grass fed meatballs are our go-to. Then head next door to check out Running Soles and start thinking about getting motivated to run that meal off. If weather is clear and not rainy this weekend try to make it to Freeman Lake Park for walking on the trails, frisbee golf, or a round of tennis. Still time for fun? Go check out a couple of other local shops scattered around town like The Bug’s Ear, Magness Primitives, and FINE House & Garden.

For a night out on the town check out what’s going on at the State Theater - this Saturday Mark Chestnut is throwing a concert and then head around the corner to Flywheel Brewing. Country music ain’t your thang? Go to the brand new movie theater - The Nutcracker is opening and just in time to get you in the holiday spirit. For dinner eat at another local restaurant around town that is close to the theaters - Sim for sushi and hibachi or 2BThai for authentic Thai of course - the red curry is a favorite. Dessert? Try out Dewster’s Homemade Ice Cream & Bakery. Don’t lay around and say there’s nothing to do this weekend...unless laying around is precisely what you want to do. Have a great weekend in town friend!
